Living Room
A chandelier can be a great choice of feature lighting in your living room. Just remember to consider the positioning of your light to avoid any glares. The special lighting created by a chandelier creates a wonderfully cosy atmosphere for evenings in the living room.
Add sparkle to your room
Crystals and chandeliers go hand in hand. The crystals create a unique light effect. If you prefer a more subtle look, consider a white chandelier that is less noticeable. This also works the other way around with a darker chandelier and dark background.
The best positions for a chandelier
High walls
High walls is a chandelier sits perfectly on its own. The higher the room, the longer the distance between the lamp and the ceiling can be.
The perfect size
A large chandelier is an attention magnet and looks impressive in a large room. If your room conditions do not allow this, you should of course choose a smaller chandelier. A small room will appear cramped if an object that is too large is placed in the middle or drops too close to the floor.
Light walls
A special feature of a chandelier is that they shine light up towards the ceiling. This means that the light shines upwards instead of downwards. This allows enough light to reflect off the walls, particularly if the wall is white.
If you prefer a darker wall color, no problem. In this case, however, you should look out for a chandelier with a larger number of lamps in order to achieve good illumination.
Well-placed
Chandeliers need enough space to distribute the light across the entire room. Avoid mounting chandeliers near a wall or in corners of a room.
Installation height
At what height do you find a chandelier most beautiful? There are no rules for the 'correct' installation height of a chandelier. However, in order to get a feel for which mounting height is suitable for your home, we have put together a few tips for you.
When placed over a table, the chandelier should hang at a distance of 150 cm from the floor.
If a chandelier hangs freely in the room or above an entrance, a distance of at least 200 cm to the floor should be maintained.
This simple formula helps to calculate the chain length:
Room height - height of the chandelier - ((150cm) 200 cm + x cm) = length of the chain
For example:
Room height 280cm
Height of the chandelier - 40cm
Passage height - 200cm*
Length of the chain = 40cm
* use 150 instead of 200 if you plan to hang the chandelier over a table
The higher the ceiling in a room, there is more distance from the floor. This should be considered for both aesthetic and practical reasons. The height of the chandelier is very important, as the installation height and the chain length must be adjusted accordingly.
