Are your lights too light, too dark? Too bright, too dim? Learn more
Once your new lighting is installed, you need to make sure it isn't too bright or too dim. Here are few explanations that will help you understand the properties of your indoor lighting.
The luminous flux of your light is measured in lumens. It indicates how much visible light is emitted by your lamp.
The luminous intensity is how strong the light is. It not only depends on the lumens, but also on the concentration and beam angle of the lamp. If you use two luminaires with the same lumen values, but different beam angles, the luminaire with the smaller beam angle (more focussed light) will generate stronger light. The light intensity (measured in Candela) indicates how much light falls in a certain direction.
Light colour: the higher the Kelvin value of your lamp, the colder the light appears. The less Kelvin, the warmer it will be.
Use these points as a guide. We can help you with the design of your lighting product, to ensure you can achieve your desired lighting mood in every room of your home.
But enough of the technical terms, let's get started. In three simple steps, you can create the perfect lighting for your rooms.
"Simplicity is the highest form of sophistication."

Basic lighting
The basic lighting in every room is typically the light you switch on first when you enter. Here is how to make this lighting perfect:
Make sure your basic lighting is glare-free. This means that the light sources are mounted outside of your normal field of vision or are shielded. Ceiling lights and wall lights are best for this. With wall-mounted lights, you should ensure they do not dazzle. With the right lighting choice, wall or ceiling lights will reflect the light and scatter it to create good lighting and a soft and warm environment in the desired room.
When relying on bright, uniform light, we recommend 100lm / m². For example, in an office, the room is 20m², so you need a 2000lm lamp for illumination.
Depending on how the room is used will depend on the tone of the light. We recommend choosing a warm light tone for a cosy atmosphere and a daylight tone for productivity in working rooms. Each room in your home has a different use so your lighting choices need to meet each unique requirement. Use dimmable lamps, dimmer switches or smart lighting that you can control via your mobile phone.
You have now taken the first step towards good room lighting and you can now focus on the finer details.

Step 2: Accent Lighting (Photo: LED STRIP system)
Accent lighting
With accent lighting, you can put your pictures, art, stylish furniture or cosy corners in the limelight. How to proceed depends what is in the spotlight. Pictures and art are best highlighted using focused spotlights, either a Halogen or LED spotlight with narrow beam angle. The warm light tone can create a cosy atmosphere. Showcases and shelves can be illuminated either from the front and above using spotlights, or from the inside using built-in and surface mounted lights. Cosy corners for reading books can be highlighted with a small table lamp or a high floor lamp.
Office Lighting
Office lighting or lighting for any workspace requires a focus on accents. Do your children do their homework at the dining room table? Do you have a desk where you have to file away your tax returns on long winter nights? This is when you need this sort of light.
Choose a bright light to ensure you are wide awake and productive during these working times.
We recommend finding a light source with a daylight colour to aid you in staying focused on work.
Choose dimmable lamps if the room is also used for cosy evenings.
Illuminate your office or workspace from several angles to ensure you have no hard shadows.
A good reading lamp is another example for work lighting. You want to be alert but have a cosy lighting atmosphere during times like these.
Is your light bright enough to allow you to read and concentrate without getting tired.
But not too bright that it dazzles or disturbs your workflow.

How bright should surface lighting be?
A few more tips on how many lumens and Kelvin you actually need for this type of light
Do you want concentration?
In rooms where you work, you need a constant bright light in order to keep concentration, such as a study or the kitchen, you should use 300 lm / m2.
For offices or work surfaces, we recommend choosing universal white light sources. For example, between 3,300 and 5,300 Kelvin (K). This is easier on your eyes and keeps you more alert.
In basement rooms, storage rooms, or garages, you can also use lamps with a cold white light. That is more than 5,300K, and this type of light colour corresponds to sunlight.
Wherever you work, or do creative activities, make sure that you use lamps with a uniform colour tone so that colours look consistent.
Would you like a cosy atmosphere?
In cosy and relaxing rooms, such as corridors or living rooms, you need around 100 lm/m2 of living space.
For a welcoming atmosphere in your home, as well as your outside lighting, we recommend choosing a warm white lightbulbs with less than 3300K.
When using accent lighting and basic lighting in your living room, you can also use coloured light sources which you can control from a remote control or an app.
