Lighting Glossary
Term:
Lumen
The unit for the luminous flux is Lumen (lm). The luminous flux describes the amount of light generated by a light source. For lamps emitting light in all directions the amount of light generated is quoted in lumens (luminous flux). In case of reflector lamps emitting light predominantly in one direction the light intensity in Candela (cd) is generally preferred as a measure for the amount of light under a certain angle. The nominal luminous flux is a number that helps to identify the lamp; the rated luminous flux gives the actual value.
